The guides on my 78 actually stuck to the window and they could not be lowered. I put the new guides in and yes the are very tight. I trimmed them back some to take most of the stress off the window. The old guides were shot and the metal brackets were coming through. I did not want to etch my windows with the old guides.

Somebody post on the polishing idea ... if it works ok I'm going to try doing mine. Would love to get rid of those vertical lines on the glass ...
Bruce, how much longer are you going to be in Germany? |
^^^ Hi Tom - 2 years and then back to Texas.

The glass polishing kit I got from Eastwood company took some scratches out of my windshield, but you have to be patient and apply multiple times to get the scratches out. It is messy as the powder has to be mixed with water into a paste/slurry. Then applied by a polishing machine or drill and it flies everywhere.

I wonder if this is what killed my passenger window motor. Why are the new guides so much larger?
|
The new ones must be meant to compress over time ... a bit tight at first but still supportive over time as they age ...

Synchronicity at work. Here's a current thread:
