Hi novector, are thoose latex gloves or nitrile

Latex; but, normally nitrile. I was getting ready to grease up the window guide tube (I replaced the guides, roller, lower/outer window seal, etc.) that day too.

Cool info. Another items added to the preventive maintenance list.

Yep, those are it. I remember Tom (in Austin) posting in an old thread that his were a tight fit too. So maybe it's just a GTS thing. All I know is, they were too fat for mine and they were adjusted inward as far as they could go. I still have the other 2 unopened collecting dust...

The guides on my 78 actually stuck to the window and they could not be lowered. I put the new guides in and yes the are very tight. I trimmed them back some to take most of the stress off the window. The old guides were shot and the metal brackets were coming through. I did not want to etch my windows with the old guides.

Somebody post on the polishing idea ... if it works ok I'm going to try doing mine. Would love to get rid of those vertical lines on the glass ...

Bruce, how much longer are you going to be in Germany?

^^^ Hi Tom - 2 years and then back to Texas.

The glass polishing kit I got from Eastwood company took some scratches out of my windshield, but you have to be patient and apply multiple times to get the scratches out. It is messy as the powder has to be mixed with water into a paste/slurry. Then applied by a polishing machine or drill and it flies everywhere.

I wonder if this is what killed my passenger window motor. Why are the new guides so much larger?

Tom in Austin 04-07-2014 01:26 PM

The new ones must be meant to compress over time ... a bit tight at first but still supportive over time as they age ...

Synchronicity at work. Here's a current thread:

How to replace felt window guides

and a link from that thread:
