Default Remove engine with devek headers..

From the bottom??

DOing an engine swap soon, and also need to do trans work..might drop it all from below like it was installed.

Not sure the Devek headers can go out attached that way..

Dropping the engine like a air cooled VW or 911 (and mid-engine Ferrari) is an interesting idea, more steps to take for motor removal, but maybe worth the effort.

That's an idea that i would consider simply to not deal with the 500 lb. motor hanging over the RS.

You could do this with a 2 post lift. Would need a few hands for re installation though. Actually wouldn't seem to be that bad. Please report how it goes

I would think you could leave the headers in place, the rest of the exhust would need to be removed.

Yes you can do it. Remove the brace from the crossmember to the rear bolt of the upper a-arms though!

you will also need to do an alignment after dropping the engine out through the bottom. pulling out thru the top is much less invasive.

Bottom up was how engine was put it at production line. Entire drivetrain was installed in one big lump including suspension and exhaust.

Hmm..srysly considering doing just that right now...

What needs removed as you go backwards from the flexplate?

Shift cable, bowden cable, tranny fluid hoses off the trans..and the 6 big bolts and shock tower nuts on the rear?

I have the capability to raise the chassis off the D'train..that would look rather bitchin.

Plus I can R&R the LSD end of the transmission at the same time.

(I have a failing 960-302-06-309)

Parking brake cable, diff speedo sensor, transmission harness, ABS cables and brake flex lines to rear calipers, upper swaybar links.

Prolly some other stuff too. Just sawzall through whatever else is hanging during body-off.

Good notes.

But..MUCH of the stuff behind the engine, seems super simple to get done, to do this.

As long as you have a tranny jack, about eight jackstands, some an impact wrench and a two post lift, it's just not that hard.

Now, getting it all aligned and positioned on the floor so you can drop the body back down on it, that may not be as simple without extra pairs of hands.

Like saying "its not that hard to play a guitar, all you do is just move your hands back and forth."

ya..got hands. And its a two-rail lift.

Done a number of body-off engine swaps on camaro/firebirds, just not a 928. Yet.

That'll be fun to trailer to the steam cleaner for cleanin'.

with a two post lift it isn't that hard....Sean & I did it on the widow when it had 928intl headers (even bulkier I think).....

It does take "longer" than the normal way, I just wonder if its worth extra time vs removing the headers (which always is a PITA)...that I am not sure of? However if you already need to do some TT-trans work then might as well

Installing the headers is something I will never do again.

So..this is wayyyyyy easier.
