Very nice 91 S4 on craigslist (advertised as 90)
If I was in the market for a 928, this is the first one I'd look at - well knowing that it is actually a 1991 S4:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/4137011831.html
1990 Porsche 928 S4/GT Black on Light grey leather interior.
Lots of things have been done to this car.Ice cold Aircond. fresh oil change Aug 3rd
some items include 18in wheels & tires, by pass stainless steel ehaust,Keyless entry
K&N air filter, lloyd mats, full tinted windows etc. Car is ready to drive anywhere
I've owned this car for 7yrs. it has 50K miles. It gets a lot of looks.
Please NO EMAILs. TEXTING sales calls or trades
Call Greg for more info at 503-260-2255
Anybody know how I could tell at a glance that it was a 1991, and not a 1990?

The handbrake is one way to tell (different shape and leather), but there is something much more obvious about this car that is only available on 91 and later models... and hard to retrofit.
Any guesses?
Here are a few things the 91 model has that are not visible on the pictures:
- more power assist in the steering (different pump and rack - if the rack has not been replaced with an incorrect one)
- re circulation function for the HVAC
- better sound insulation
- check engine light (instruments)
- improved alarm system
- improved under-hood light

Airbag? (I dont know when airbags arrived in US models - in UK not till GTS so MY92)
That thick insulation mat in hatch? My MY91 has it and previous MY88 I owned had much thinner material

No, on the US models, airbags started in 1990. The mat in the hatch is aftermarket Lloyd.
What's the interior color of your Amazon Green 1991 model?

-analog clock
-LH cover button
-cabin lights dimmer on the console face (and wiper interval wheel on the other side)?

Analog clock started in 1990
Painted rear wing started with GTS
Not sure what you mean by LH Cover Button
No change in Cabin Lights from 1990 to 1991

Location of the mirror switch?? (never owned a '90 or '91, but as I recall, this is certainly different location than my '89 and other S4's where it was up by the seat memory buttons).

I'm going to go out on a limb (and not a thin limb because I just checked two '91s I have in my garage at the moment to be sure) that this car is indeed a '90 and not a '91.
There is something present in the pictures that would not be on a '91 that indicates the presence of a system that no one in their right mind would retro-fit to a '91.
Hint: do not look for it in interior pictures.
Edit: Although I am open to the possibility that this car is a very early '91 and used a few stray '90 bits still lying around the factory floor.
