Alarm Question
I'll post this again. PorKen started to answer it for me with a great picture of the S key and the valet key. I am using the S key in my car. I am wondering how to activate the alarm. Mine just started to work on and off without any prediction. In the owners manual it says to activate the alarm, the door should be locked and then the key needs to be turned to the left. Does this mean that the door should be locked from the outside with the key And then if I turn the key back to the left it just unlocks the door. I kinda got the idea from PorKen that if the car is just locked with the S key in the regular fashion this turns on the alarm???? Any suggestions.

Just need to turn key to lock position to activate alarm. Be sure to turn firmly so contacts inside lock touch.
When unlocking, turn opposite way, also firmly. It is possible for door to be unlocked with the key and the alarm still go off if contacts don't touch.
Had a problem years ago with mine had to remove panel and clean contacts.

Let's see if I can remember this one...
The alarm is set by a switch on the end of the lock mechanism, on all three doors. Only the longer black (S) key will engage the switch. Locking the front doors will set the alarm, unlocking will turn it off.
Using the hatch lock (CW) will turn off the alarm, and open the hatch, by turning (CCW) you can set the alarm.
Notes:
-Using the interior ****, post, or the red key will not arm or disarm the alarm.
-If any door is open when you set the alarm, the alarm will not be armed until you close the door(s).
-Opening the hood will also set off the alarm.
-While the alarm is armed, the fuel relay is disabled.
On my car, the contact for disarming on the drivers side was corroded. I had to disarm using the passenger side lock. Disassembling, cleaning, and lubing with dielectric grease fixed it right up.
The hatch switch is missing so I have to remember to unlock a front door or I get the 'look at me, I have a Porsche' klaxon at the Safeway!

Thanks again PorKen for the info. Sounds like I need to rip the door open again (god I love doing that!) and fix yet another thing in that cave. Big Dave, sorry that I missed the Frenzy. Someone called me on Saturday afternoon from the Frenzy and was wondering where I was. I was trying to get out of Traverse City 2 minutes after the Cherry Festival ended and the Porsche was over-heating and traffic was not moving). I missed the Frenzy cause my sister had to fly out to San Fransisco to look at housing because they are moving and I got stuck with her 8 year old daughter and my 3 year old son. I could not see the three of us traveling to Ann Arbor. But next year I will be there.

Katmando31,
The simplest indicator is if you have a long key. Check the pictures above. In my case it is more complicated because I have a long key and the PO had an aftermarket alarm installed (now history). I haven't checked to see how much of the original alarm infrastructure is left. The alarm unit is mounted behing the glove box, so you can pop that out and have a look. See 90-41 in the shop manuals.
