Those who have done it, any tricks to it?
Wiring issues?
Paint issues?
General Advice?

I have no patience. I just spoke to Dave and ordered the GTS mirror conversion kit. He gave me some pretty specific instructions. I will report back in a couple of weeks when I get it done.
I've got a PDF file that Andy E. wrote that goes step by step w pics if anyone's interested. Email me at latt@libertybiz.rr.com and I'll shoot you a copy.

Be sure to order mirror glass for the "mirror kit" I believe that Porsche no longer includes the glass in the "kit". The base where it mounts to the door has a different footprint so if the doors have been painted there maybe a line showing . The wiring for the S-4 to Aero is detailed in a technical bulletin and not too difficult BUT for the early cars you should use the late switches and rewire splice ....everything for the mirrors . The mirrors are unpainted so add in the cost of painting to the project
I have seen an unpowered (lightweight) GTS mirror kit online somewhere, anyone else seen this? I can't remember the site, and it was not significantly cheaper without the motors.
Along the same lines, where to buy a left hand blank/mirror switch delete plate? The two sides are not interchangeable.

PS: Anyone seen a radio-delete plate for early cars for sale?

Good topic!
I have a link I saved somewhere that details this for a 944 with 968 Aero mirrors. Be nice to have a 928 specific one though.
Jim thanks for the tip on the early cars. Be needing that. Does 928 Intl. also offer an Aero mirror update kit?
Thanks

It was a fairly easy process. I told the mechanic to do it, and $700 later I had GTS mirrors on my car. Now, if thir painter would have put clear coat on the inside as well, I'd be totally happy...
Somewhere I've read that the better aerodynamics of the GTS mirros should add 5km/h to the top speed of a 928. That's incredible! Think about it - you can leave your air pump, catalytic converter, AC, etc. in your car, and don't need that stroker kit, headers, etc. etc. anymore to make your car faster...

There is a tool that is used for removing the wires from the plugs of the old mirrors and then you can just insert them into the new gts plugs. Buy it...(about $25.00) or you will spend hours doing this. If I were going to do this job again I would just use my old motors and old wiring and put them into the new mirrors.

NYDolfan: When they painted the mirrors, they did not spray enough clear coat around the edges. So the little area of the mirror housing that you can see between the mirror and the edge of the housing - that's where there is not enough clearcoat. I'll probably end up adding some with my airbrush.
