If you haven't already, you might also want to check your insurance rate, assuming that you have to give them a new address for where she's kept. LA has a reputation ..

Bob, I believe it's out by LAX. No runways, just rocket and space stuff as I recall.

My son is stationed at Twenty Nine Palms in San Bernardino County and even though he keeps his truck registered in TX, he has to pass the CA smog test. Not sure if that's a state requirement or a USMC requirement to operate a vehicle on base.

From the base web site-"Proof of compliance with Smog Inspection will consist of a printout of the inspection results provided by a certified California State Smog Inspection Stations. An actual State Smog Certificate is not required."

Yeah. IMHO the only livable area near there is at the beach, and it's very expensive and very densely populated. The immediate area near LAX away from the beach isn't good. She will have a tough commute from further away.

You work from anywhere?

Don't count on passing California smog just because the pipe does.
If they do a good visual, their book lists everything it's supposed to have on it.
I usually try to find the cheapest guy hoping he won't take the time do do a through job.

Yep. The visual inspection is really odd to me. In the UK (I'm British), you just have to pass the emissions test - any modifications that do (and are safe) are fine. I naively thought that California was more car-friendly. Fail.

California -is- the nations love affair with cars, if not the worlds...

We just like seeing the hills 5mi away these days.

It's not big deal to have a great car, be legal. Unless you've gone out of your way to make it a big deal.

Hardly the State's fault.

But hey, dont insurance companies raise rates based on the mods you make on your car, like air filters...lights...??

Minot has four seasons and less intrusive local government.

(Most of the CHP cars automatically scan license plates and run the numbers to look for invalid tags... don't ask me how I know.)

DMV site says, "Nonresident military personnel stationed in California or their spouses may operate their vehicles with valid out-of-state license plates from their home state or the state where the military person was last stationed." I see the "nonresident" part of it and wonder what the definition is... there's another place on the site where they say you become a resident when you get a job or a CA driver's license but you might be off the hook with that.

You could try to bring the car in and get it to pass smog through a referee station if it runs clean. That probably won't work, but it is an option.

What CARB wants is to take the older vehicles off the road and crush them. Don't get me started on how stupid the laws are here, taxes, awful, corrupt government...

At least the weather is nice.
The weather is nice here in Pa too. But it is who you are with, I'd live anywhere so long i was with Family.

Anywho, since the 'car culture' is headquartered in Cali (sorry Randy) seems a bit odd that the State is so unfriendly to the few car people with real collectible classics.

But hey, dont insurance companies raise rates based on the mods you make on your car, like air filters...lights...?? No, not my PA insurer, they don't care or even ask. $50 a year to be fully covered for $15k replacement and no deductible. Ahhh freedom.
Beaten subject though..
