Default RADAR DETECTOR

Hi All:
I am in the market for a Radar Detector for use in both urban and highway settings and would like to know what models are favored. I have not had a speeding ticket in 20 years but my old outdated unit (about 20 years old) no longer works. I want to update but there are so many features available - GPS, pre-loaded camera locations, etc. that I am hoping for some feedback from users. My scan of the net reviews indicate the Escort Passport 9500 ix seems to lead in most categories. Any suggestions/recommendations/comments?

Many thanks,

Joe

I like the Escort Solo. I don't like the wires of the Passport or any other unit quality unit. Yes, I can make them inconspicuous etc.. but with the Solo one doesn't have to. Gives me front and rear signal detection. Don't need anything else regarding bells and whistles. Just a quality unit, an understanding of Doppler and the other sides limitations and my vulnerabilities are all that is needed. Haven't had a ticket with it ever.

True.
So long as the unit works for you.

My 9500IX has certainly been working for me for the last three years... Saved my *** many times, including this weekend on the run up to the Guemes GTG. What I am saying is that it has paid for itself. The red light camera warning is pretty cool but since I'm not in the habit of running red lights it is sort of unnecessary for me. Easy enough to turn off that function though. However, I really like the digital gps speed display; nice to know exactly how fast you are going at any given moment, a big improvement over the stock dash speedometer IMO.

Default Old school

I have a snooper C5000 that came with the car. It's mounted in the front bumper and the control unit is under the dash on passenger side. Once had a cop stand in front of the car and point the radar gun at the unit. Beeped once. I don't count on it for early warning.

Thanks! I had not considered the issues associated with the power cord. The old unit was attached to the sun visor and the power cord hidden below the A pillar trip piece and then routed behind the pod and finally plugged into the cigarette lighter.

My wife and I each have a 9500ix. I considered the V1, but decided the 9500 was the better unit for us. The GPS and false signal cancellation are huge +'s!!

I tried a Solo for a few days, and took it back. It didn't have enough range for me.

What is that new Escort??? Anyone tried that? Escort MAX or something like that? I could use a GPS speedo for radar for my two EURO cars... Does the 9500 have that and is it always available (as in always on?)

Hi Gearz - GPS speed is a nice feature. Light years beyond my old Heathkit Road Patrol!

The 9500 has GPS, but it only gives a reading when you get hit. I haven't looked into the Max yet.
