liftbars for 986
my goodness it's a great day - I just discovered liftbars for Boxsters, and I now have a Boxster!
928 content - I wouldn't do 2/3 of what I do on my sharks (past and present) without those liftbars!
I am cross-posting in the 986 forum so they learn about these over there.
Thank you Ken!

The lift points on a boxster and 928 are spaced the same.
I used my 928 liftbars on a boxster the other day to replace his waterpump and it was an exact fit.
Waterpump job on that car is easy.

I did a search on the 986 forum to make sure I wouldn't make an enzo post, and I do believe they have never heard of them over there. Wow, wait until they see what they are missing!
(and no, Ken isn't paying me for this exposure)

Interesting, since that is what got me thinking. I had my car on the bars over the weekend, and I thought how wonderful it would be if I had something similar for the box. My question for you is which set of bars are you referring to? The pre or post 86.5, because they are different, and I had a near disaster by using the wrong bars on my old shark (I used pre-86.5 bars on my 86.5, and it nearly fell off).

I had custom lift bars made for my 90. 4" steel channel with pads at lift points and a 1/2" dia bolt 1/2" long to locate in the hole in the frame to keep things from moving around. Jack stands fit nicely inside the 4" channel and can't slip off.

I don't have a photo of it 4' but I have a 30" shot. I do have a picture of my jack stands for high work though.

My Lift Bar
Some time ago (2006) before I even knew about Ken's lift bar design, it was suggested to me by Rich Andrade, that I devise a bar such as these to lift both the front and back of my then only S4, at the same time. Here are the pictures of what I came up with shortly after that.
The first version of this bar had fixed points at each end, but when I obtained another or more 928s, all S4s, I found that the lift point pins didn't fit them all, so I made one of the points adjustable.
I put the holes along the botton of this bar mainly to lighten it, but to also account for any desired CG adjustment, which I have not found the need for.
Since then I have learned of the use of these kind of bars with jack stands under each end, so now I still have to make another one of these to lift both sides of the car leaving the first bar in place between the jack stands and the car.
The item in the end of the jack is made to fit the bar. I also found that I needed a special jack that was low enough to put this all together and still fit under the car before jacking.
My Bar is made out of 2 by 3 inch steel box tubing with a 3/16 inch wall. It seems to be just about right for the task.

I have always used this on the bottom and just put jack stands under the jacking point of the car.
