Default Might proud of my OB today

I bought my 80 Euro, barely running, in the summer of 2009 as a project. I have had it in various stages of repair for about as long as I've owned it, mostly because it doesn't get priority in the budget. I've had it running enough to prove it will drive, but I hadn't taken it farther than it could easily be towed home. I decided it was time to take my OB on a shakedown cruise. My son told me about a GRC race in Charlotte, NC that's about 325 miles from home. Perfect! This should be an adventure.
So bright and early Sunday morning we load up/down with the necessities... tools, GPS, oil, duct tape, rags, jack and stands, and plenty of bottled water and head out. I'm about as nervous as a new father. We did discover a few problems, gauges mostly, but the car ran beautifully all the way there and home. No overheating, the gauge hovered around the first mark and the electric fans only turned on twice, both times while idling at a gas station. Used no oil that I can tell and oil pressure read 3.5 to 4.5 while driving, dropping to 2 at stops. Fuel gauge and speedo inop, lol. At least that's my excuse for how we made the trip there in 4:32. The ride home was significantly slower at 5:17.
The only thing that actually broke was a rear tail light lens that was discovered missing about halfway home.
Overall I couldn't be prouder of the way the car performed. It felt strong and solid all the way even when pushed. I have a lot more confidence in it today than I have since I've owned it. I still have plenty to do on it, but I have been reminded of the goal - this car is made to drive.

Gassing up to go

Good stuff! I hear you. I just got back from being in Italy for three weeks and came home and she fired right up. Blasted out to the freeway to shake the dust off. It occurred to me what a great car I have, and how dependable it has been during my first year of ownership (broken gas gauge too, hehe).
Beautiful looking ride!

Nice story. The more you drive them the more you love them.
