Default Best organic oil for engine break in?

Just about to start with the rebuild and was wondering which organic oil should be used for the break in period?

Is there a published procedure for the break in? Thanks

I was watching a hot rod show recently and they had a plug for royal purple break in oil. I have no experience with the exact product, but I trust royal purple as a brand.

Break-in is the first stage of wear-out for modern engines. The rings are 'seated' in minutes, after the frst under-load pull. If they aren't seated then, they probably never will. Properly fitted bearings, bores and other wear surfaces don't break-in, they wear. So my general advice is to put in whatever you feel is appropriate, start the engine and verify no leaks or funny noises, nothing falling off. Then go drive it and warm it up gently. At temp, load it a few times to seat the rings. Drive home, up in the air, check for leaks and noises again. Then replace the oil and filter to get any assembly crud or wear particles out of the engine. Use whatever oil you plan to use for the rest of the engine's life.

Break in oils as far as I know are just single viscosity oils with a lot of zinc added to cushion things, mainly flat tappet cams on initial start up. They aren't necessary really on these engines, but I can't think of a way they could do any harm.

Search for break-in procedures.

These engines do not have iron blocks and the break-in for the rings will take 500 to 1000 miles. I used Valvoline VR-1 50W last time and was satisfied. Don't go synthetic before the rings are fully seated and that means the 500 to 1000 miles.
