My approach to the length issue was to cutoff the Y-pipe about 2 feet from the manifold, bolt that up, and use some flexi-pipe to connect the sections. Then drive it to an exhaust shop and have then replace the gap with welded-in pipe.

I have searched and couldn't find any procedures for porting and/or cleaning up the stock lump manifolds on my 82. Is there any published and I have access to free machine tools? This car is for my 16 year old son, we don't need huge HP gains and we are rapidly blowing through our budget i.e. Mom is getting perturbed! Especially after a Greg Brown gear box rebuild and now I am doing a valve job.

So I am looking just to free up the exhaust as cheaply as possible. Maybe porting the existing manifolds and cutting out the cat and welding in an extension.

Could one completely remove the cat and and resonator, weld in a 3 inch extension pipe directly to an existing Borla end muffler and not be excessively loud?

If that will be a problem, I can keep the resonator. Thanks.

My avatar should read "In for a penny, in for a pound" cuz I'm definitely committed to many pounds now!

I bought the adapter along with the X pipe when I did the conversion on my car, wound up throwing the adapter in the junk pile and welding a piece in myself. the adapter doesn't fit, save yourself the $ and just weld a piece if pipe in it's place.

OK last question. If i do keep the cat installed and I delete the air pump on my 82, do I need to plug the air pump line hole on the cat?
