Hey if anyone is still following this thread does anyone have a recommendation on how far I should take this replacement engine down? I mean should I strip it bare and replace all seals and gaskets or...? I'd have no issue if this were some iron block that had been sitting for ten years in good storage, but I am not so confident with a 928 even with what appears to be excellent storage.
Replace all of the seals and gaskets as they have long dried out and would leak like a sieve the first time you filled it with fluids ( I don't trust 35+ year old cork).
It gives you a chance to update some problem gaskets like the rear camshaft seals and the cam tower seals.
You could even do a little porting while you are in there.
Well I just found what appears to be a screaming deal on a Victor Reinz engine gasket set past number. W01331647233REI which is supposed to be equivalent to 92810090100. Total cost including shipping was $275.00. Which is $75 cheaper than anywhere else.
I am wondering what I don't get with these kits that I have to fill in? I am sure none of the fuel system, injection and other ancillary components are covered. If anyone happens to know that would be helpful. I know the fuel dist isn't covered.
Also I recieved my cams today and they are mint! Not bad for $137 shipped to my door for both LH & REPORTING sides.
My goal investment in this euro shark is under $3500 with spare engine and spare 5 speed transaxle. Heck I have double that in my 944:-\
