Well I havent had the complete handle off/out yet, however I have the inner door skin off and it looks to me like tge cheap casted/pot metal arm on the handle is broken. One side of the handle when pulled comes quite far out.

To ThetaTau,
Just repaired same issue. There were two loose nuts on handle to hinge mechanism. Mechanism is still good. Door card off, raise window, remove bolt and two screws holding the security panel over handle, remove plastic retainers holding wires. Lower window carefully. Slide security panel out of way but leave it in the door. Sort of bitchy. Tighten bolts (4mm hex I think). Holes in handle are slotted so set it to not bind at top when opening and square to door panel indent. Still a PITA job but not as bad as pulling all the locks/handles/etc. for a complete hinge replacement.
Cheers, Phendriks
