Default Marriage of CR-210 & CDC-3

I apologize if this has been covered. I searched through the old threads and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I took a CR-210 Becker head unit to Best Buy install along with a Becker Silverstone 2660 and the installers seemed intimidated and told me the head unit wouldn't fit and that it simply wouldn't work. Those box store fools actually refused to work on it!

Needless to say, I'm taking my gear to a shop that only installs car stereos. The CD changer, however, turned out to be a dud so I will be using a CDC-3 instead.

My understanding is that the CDC-3 and 2660 are essentially the same changers. Still, I want to make sure the CDC-3 and CR-210 are compatible.

Stefan sent me the proper wiring, which I hope I can still use to connect the CR-210 and CDC-3.

Anyone have this set up?

Heh, when I saw the thread title, my kneejerk response was 'what would Stefan at SWStereo recommend?' He probably knows more about Porsche factory radio configurations than anyone, so hopefully whatever he sent you for wiring adapters should work.

Perhaps you could rig up a 12V power supply and test the units together?

I guess the real question is, what year is your 928, and what does the car's stereo wiring look like now? Fitting this radio combo into a '94 GTS with the factory CD-2 and CDC-1 is going to be a lot simpler than an '85 S3 with aftermarket stuff......

EDIT: Duh, missed your sig- '82 928. Much wiring to do! You going to run an external amp, or use the CR-210 internal? Speakers? sub?

You may want to rethink the best buy install (or anything like it...).

Even most dedicated stereo installers are rubbish...

Find someone good before they butcher your car - look for local recommendations - or do it yourself...

Do it yourself. I replaced my HU in the 83 without much difficulty. Unless you are going for a very original set up on purpose, I would have to question the use of a separate CD changer, as there are MANY much better performing music storage systems today. I slotted in a JVC HU that can read DVD discs, which gives me 4.7GB of mp3 files, which is upwards of 1100 tracks. Can also play dvd movies if you fit a screen to entertain/distract smalle passengers. Coupled with new speakers, I have an excellent system now.

Or go for a HU that accepts both USB and SD card inputs. My Blaupunkt has a removable 32GB SD card that has EVERY bit of music I own on it. Easy to update and oh so portable.
