I would go to the auto paint store and buy a quart of Adhesive Remover and try that. It works good for the auto trim guys to remove even very hardened contact cement, which looks a lot like the stuff on your car. Too, it is very compatible with vinyl, leather and paint.

Active ingredient in Goof-Off a very popular brand of adhesive remover is xylol, sold Home Depot or Lowes or any Home Paint center as well.
Small container $7.

Slight correction. The stuff I was referring to is actually Adhesive Cleaner. Its primary ingredient is Xylene, and then some other stuff. Here is a picture of the can, front and back. I think it cost me about twelve bucks.

I wasn't correcting you. I was correcting me. Remover versus cleaner.

Careful when working with Xylene. We use it in my lab extensively as a clearing agent and medium and that stuff will eat away at anything. Because it's a hydrocarbon it's oily in feel and texture and a bit hard to work with pouring wise.

For clean up, use 100% alcohol because it's immiscible with water directly.
