Default Parking Brake Help

I've comprehensively gone through the driveline of my '89 S4, and am now at the stage of reinstalling the parking brake components. Of course, I should taken more careful notes, but I'm struggling with the actuation side and how it comes together.

I've gotten the mounting springs for each shoe set, and the spring and star wheel side, but the levers actuating the shoes have caught me out.

Any help on how they are fitted would be deeply appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

when you fit the shoe anchor springs to the hub carriers,
make sure that you verify the springs are positioned correctly,
there are ribs that the spring hooks must grab,
if not then the springs will come loose and damage the shoes after its back together.
To do this use a drop light and a mirror and look at the rear side of the hub carriers

Thanks, Stan. I figured that out last night while installing the shoes (thanks to the terrific help here); capturing those hooks was a bear, and when I checked for secure engagement, there were those ribs.

I'm guessing that adjustment is through the window in front of the brake disc, and run them up to full contact and then back off a few clicks until the disc turns freely?

Yes make sure the star adjuster nicely lubricated and cleaned.

Through that hole with wheel rotated adjuster cog is right behind it just use long screwdriver blade to flick it in relevant direction to extend (= push shoes into rotor) or shorten adjuster. With park brake lever off, adjust till you have locked the disc. I back of 3-4 clicks from that point

^^^ after following that advice your E brake handle should click 3 to 4 clicks for the wheels to be locked.
Usually the handle wont need any adjustment if the wheels are adjusted properly

Thank you gentlemen.

Yes, star adjuster is not only lubed, but thoroughly cleaned. I know, I'm a bit out of control here....

Ha! I was fine and completely normal until I restored a '63 fuelie Corvette convertible years ago, and brought it to NCRS shows where people crawled under your car to ensure that the paint mark on the driveshaft was the correct shade of yellow, Stan. I've been a conflicted mess ever since....

However, there is something to be said about working on your car and not getting your hands dirty....

As always, thanks for your help.

That is astonishing!

Care to pass on some tips/favourite cleaners? The dustshield doesn't look that clean when brand new, let alone other hub parts! Respect due
