Fed up with selling my 928

Your ad is good, but try re-writing it this way: First, a brief intro-- "85 928s, runs and drives great, looks terrific, 110K miles, $11K". That's the hook.
Now list all the good stuff: Maintenance is current, TB & WP xx miles ago, updated tensioner (buyers don't know what a porken is), everything works. Details are fine here-- but say "fresh coolant, no leaks" and skip the bit about o-rings and plugs... nobody cares what you did, only that it works as it should.
(Maintenance is a bitch-- you can work your butt off and if successful, then it works just as it should and isn't worthy of a mention).
Then list the not-so-good stuff: could use an oil-pan gasket, had a crumpled fender (or whatever) but fixed professionally, will need tires.
This list is preferably shorter than the "good stuff" list.
OK, you've got the hook, the good, and the bad... now the close. One line to say why the reader needs to buy this car.
"This is the perfect car for someone who loves the open road" or something corny like that.
Or a quote from Jeremy Clarkson or David E. Davis: "... This is grand touring, folks, and whatever it costs, it's worth It.".
Good luck with the sale, or if you decide to keep it!!

It's obvious there's a fatal flaw in the way your advertising which is why it isn't selling.
You don't have a hot girl sitting in, on top of, leaning against, the car!!! Hot girl? Hot girl!!

There is a whole subculture of people who, for some reason or another love to troll through car ads, to talk and hassle sellers for personal kicks. My dad has been trying to sell a car for 2 years now, the amount of freaks he has corresponded with through texts and emails alone is crazy. Some of them ask some ridiculous low-ball price, and just for kicks, now he has finally started replying, yes... come pick it up... and that's the last he ever hears from them. It's almost like some broke-*** dude a library is patting himself on the back... "YES! I could have got another one! What a negotiator!!!"
Anyway Chin up! I myself am drooling over your car, if it was a 5 speed I would have been all over it! It is gorgeous!

Thanks for the tips guys. I don't think I'm going to sell, but if I do try again in the spring I will certainly use your tips on creating the copy for my ad.
Apparently I suck at writing ads.

Find out what Ted's (Cosmo Kramer) add looked like an make yours the same. He sold his '85 this spring for MORE than the asking price.

I thought the topic of this thread was generally about selling cars, not just the about sell Adam's. So let me comment as such.
I am sick an tired of trying to buy a car and to find out that the disclosure really sucks. One car for which I was close to making a bid had been in an accident, but the seller said nothing but knew it. I just finally quietly did not bid. In very many cases I have been told "All records available" only to find out the guy has 5 reciepts. I bought my 9-3 convertible new and I really have ALL reciepts. I have over 200'000 miles on it and it is a THICK stack.
I think the problem with selling/buying cars is that some people have higher expectations about disclosure than others. I am interested in 2 cars currently. But I really don't get enough information to even make an offer!
I haven't looked at Adam's ad so I can not really comment specifically on it.
Cheers to all...

That's the problem, the market for these cars is small, but up here its even smaller. And we only have 7 or so months of good driving weather, vs a warmer climate where you can drive all year.
Ad there is at least a dozen **** 928's for sale near Toronto, anywhere from 3-9k.
Maybe I'm different than most, when I'm looking for a car, I go see and drive them regardless of condition or price, so I can make an informed selection. Now people shop from behind a keyboard.

All joking aside, you have a very nice car which you were gracious enough to take me on your cruise. You are not asking an outrageous sum for your car. If i was in the market for one, yours would certainly be on the top of my list. As is said above, you just have to wait for the right buyer. It took me almost a year of trying to sell my Black 89 Auto before finding a buyer under my nose (my insurance broker). I was literally about to give up since i really liked a working car. I got a very fair and healthy asking price and he recieved a well sorted out 928. Win-Win. GLWS
For those who have not met Adam's wife, she is a beautiful and charming lady. Adam is certainly a lucky guy!

Thanks Livio.
I'm not sure if she will do that. But I work in the advertising industry I could always have a fake casting call.

^^ This. I"m out there bottom feeding all the time. I don't aggravate people but I'm looking for a bargain and only a bargain. Once in a while I get lucky and find a 928 90GT for $6000 or a 968 for $2000 or a Ferrari for $15,500.
I just bought an airplane on Monday. It was for sale for $29k about two years ago. No one even looked at it. Last year it dropped to $24.9k, and then this year in July it dropped to $19k. Last week it was offered for $18.5 and I paid $16. I had a plane back the first year it was for sale but , I offered $24k and was rejected. The seller could have made $8k, but no - he wanted to get his price. Now, I've got the plane, and I'm $8k ahead to invest in a new electronic panel.

So, you see sometimes good things happen to bad people(like me).
