Sometimes, much as I love it here, the testimony to the US education system tends to grate.

Heck, I had to wander all over Rock Hill, SC just to find ANYONE who had 20W-50 in the first place.
If you have an authorized BG products dealer (professional repair shop) in your area, they can get BG's 20W50. Perfect for our applications.

The new pins don't have any rubber part - just a pin where one end sits in the hole and the other end sits against the end cover when you put it back on. Roger sells them.

I had a noisy lifter on my 87 too. Swepco 502 tamed it, but I plan to upgrade my pins as well.

Found a source for Mobil 1 15W-50 as well as Rislone. Put the Rislone in today until the next oil change. Next time I have some days off I'll put the pins in.

Thanks everyone for the photos, explanations and overall help. It is most appreciated.

My local Wally World has their brand of 20-50 Dino oil, plentiful, which is what I am using for this stage of the game, I also use zddp additive...racked up app 0 miles between oil changes....but seemed to get a lot of fuel in the oil trying to get the CIS working....I'm thinking about going amsoil once she actually gets off the lift bars.

My 79 clicked intermittently when hot when I first bought it. Previous owner said he used castrol. I went to my favorite cure for such matters: valvoline durablend semi synthetic 20-50. the cure.
