Default Found Broken B2 Piston

Finally got chance to get the car up on the lift to get the B2 piston out.

Yup, it is the problem the B2 piston is broken through, see the pictures.

At least the trans doesn't have to come out and the car will be good to go for Frenzy!

Going to oder the new piston and

Quick question for the gurus here, the thrust pin stayed in the transmission, didn't come out with the piston. Should I pull it out install it on the new B2 piston and then put them into the transmission case together?
Or will the thrust pin line up easily enough when I put the piston back in?

Not an expert, but have done this job. I would leave the pin in. If it is seated in the indented end of the b2 band, the piston should line up. Otherwise, you will feel binding when loading the b2 piston. At least that is how I did it.

Also, did you measure the spec of the B2 band travel?

Forgot to mention, I used Vaseline to hold the assembly in place. I was informed that it mates well with ATF, but some folks say not to use it. YMMV.

I didn't measure the B2 band travel, I'm sure it was done when Steve rebuilt the trans. Trans was fine until last week when te slippage started.

I have some special Trans assembly grease made specifically to work with ATF.

Well, so much for thinking I would get away just changing the B2 piston. Installed the new piston today, started car up, filled tranny, ran it through the gears while in air, shifted nicely 1-2-3, thought I was good to go.

Took down off lift, no go still. Once it was on ground, the car still wouldn't move forward. So, it must be something with B2 band, trans will have to come out and apart.

Hi Glen,

Can you still reach Steve Cattaneo?
He would surely be able to help you with this.

I hope you will be able to fix this before Frenzy...

Good luck.

Bertrand,
Steve is not returning call to his cell, he closed his shop last year. I doubt it is an easy fix at this point and tranny has to come out to take it apart to troubleshoot. The B2 band is probably the culprit and is probably the last piece to come out of the trans when overhauling.

So it looks like the Audi 2.7T will be mode of transport to Frenzy this year.
