About to take a 1500 mile trip. What spares should I have with me?
89 GT - I bought the car at the end of June and it has been flawless so far. I took it on a trip a couple weeks ago and racked up 750 trouble free miles in a week and have put about 2500 total on it since I got it.
What spares, tools, fluids should I take with me just in case?

On top of what Jeff wrote:
- a couple of quarts of your favorite motor oil,
- a spade jumper lead (very easy to make yourself) in case you need to jumper the fuel relay.
- Carry some spare light bulbs, and check that your spare tire is OK as well the air compressor functioning.
- A digital multimeter.
Depending if your LH has ever been rebuild, I would have that done if you still have a week time (as it is not nice to have 'the brick' on the LH failing while on such a longer distance trip).
Depending on your total milage till date I would consider the fuel pump (but that might be a bit over pre-cautious from my side).

Agree with the above suggestions. After I sold my 89 S4 , the new owner wanted to drive it from Boston to Dallas. 1700 miles. I sent him off with a quart of oil, 53 relay, bag of fuses, fuse/relay chart, and a fire extinguisher. Already had the LH rebuilt a while back.
He made the trip in 2 days driving time with no problems.
The 928 turned 100k miles on the trip to Dallas.
What great cars!

Honestly I don't ever really think about what I need to take on the trip. If you keep your car maintained, a 1500 mile trip should be no big deal. I have on three occasions jumped into my car and driven it 1900 miles, 1700 miles and 1300 miles. No problems, no issues. Never thought twice about it going on any of the trips either. First trip was 1900 miles and I had just picked it up from Greg Brown's shop and drove it home to Iowa.
What's the worst thing that can happen? You break down somewhere and have to rent a car and have your car trucked home while you continue on your trip. Really, that is about the worst thing that can happen. (not talking about accidents here).

Everything they say above, but if your'e gonna go that far, you really want the AAA "Gold" card. It's an extra $30 or so but they will flatbed you up to a 100 miles at no charge up to a max of 3 times a year (Don't ask me how I know).

Keys, wallet, and ********* is all you really need... Oh yeah, maybe a print off of the emergency roadside assistance list and a cooler full of beer. I think everything else has been previously mentioned.

Where can I find the emergency roadside assistance list? Is this a list of forum members around the country? We have a list of the locations and what facilities, tools, equipment available of all the members of the Audi forum that I frequent. That has been a great resource for forum members that have troubles out on the road.

Try the 928 Owners Club. If you are not a member yet you need to be.
Also, When I take one of my cars on a long trip I carry a small tool bag and besides the tools in it I have a spare LH, a fuel filter and a spare fuel pump.

My LH has been rebuilt several times. The last time was in 2005 about 25k miles ago. Is that too long ago?
The in tank fuel pump was replaced in 2001 about 45k miles ago. What's the expected life span for those?

Rennlist members in every city and state in along your route is not a bad idea or thread stater. We should have our own list of members willing to assist travelers.

I keep in the back a nice black auto bag.
In it:
Booster cables, tool box ('928 specific'), exterior bulbs, fuses, 53 relays x 2, spaded jumper wire, E clips for headlight linkage, can of tire fill stuff, quality tire pressure gauge, 4 road flares.
In luggage cover pockets 4 folded on their bases reflective triangles and a big Maglite.
Accessory belts are with the spare and the compressor.
Stock tools in the panel.
Also have a factory first aid kit. Some original stuff still there. I restocked with my stuff. Have it with a little Velcro to the side panel so it doesn't fly around.
