Could have saved you some time then!

If the CPS is disconnected you can get a tach bounce, the fuel relay will not get energized, the spark plugs will not fire and the injectors will not click. I am not sure you can say that a bad CPS is the same thing as a disconnected CPS, tho. And there are year to year differences. An 87's fuel pump relay will not produce an audible click when moving the key into the first or second position. I verified this after the car was running again.

In retrospect, I think the Electronik Repair's diagnostic procedure should have been the first thing I did. That would have saved me a week's worth the testing and relay swapping. Of course if I were stranded on the road I'd have started swapping relay first.

Thanks to the group for all the suggestions and mad props to Dave aka outbackgeorgia for letting me test my computers in his 87. That saved me $500 right there and helped me narrow the scope of my testing.

Glad your up and running, sometimes it does take a village to keep one of these cars running.
I still suggest to use this tool to ask yourself what was the last thing I fixed.

Great news Kevin. Not sure now where the tach signal came from on yours if the CPS was not connected. Was it partially connected?
I eliminated my CPS connector with solder and heat shrink. Will put on a new connector if a new CPS is needed, but for now, it is a low $ repair and reliable.
