Agree - a Porsche battery may be that much... but it will just be basically a rebadged version of a generic battery - perhaps with a generous warranty - but hardly a good value as great warranties are available everywhere anyway.

Just get the correct group size and specification and install. Any well known brand that meets that criteria will likely do just fine.

Well, I just walked into the store and out with the battery, no waiting.
Anyway, glad you found the issue!

This isn't even a Porsche battery near as I know, it's just one that meets spec. I bought it at NAPA, they don't stock it so I'm paying for overnight delivery.

It's all about time. I live near Carmel and there's a fairly big event I'm planning to attend if I can get this thing running. I'm wedged.

Thanks to all the advice on this thread I started the car this morning after replacing the temperature switch controlling the aux fan and installing a new battery. At this point the first stage of my intake refresh is complete.

Elapsed time on the project was about 7 months but much of that was spent searching for a vacuum line that connected the transmission to the 7 way distributor in the engine bay. Another several months were spent scratching my head and searching this forum, which was (and continues to be) invaluable.

Even though I did find a major vacuum leak while re-building the intake, the net result was very little change in the overall performance of the engine. Prior to the refresh the car wouldn't start without carefully managing the throttle until it warmed up, then it still ran rough at idle.

After the refresh it still won't start without feathering the throttle, but once it starts it will hold an idle even when cold. The idle is still rough.

After warm up, the engine is relatively smooth between 1000 and 2000, gets rough at 2000, then smooths between 2000 and redline. A new symptom is that suddenly releasing the throttle kills the engine. It doesn't successfully return to idle. If the throttle is gently feathered back to 1000 and released it will return to idle. Obviously this is not yet a drivable car.

I'll probably start a new thread on this starting with the background on what I've done to date, which is briefly a timing belt replacement/refresh and an intake refresh.

Thanks to everyone who's helped me on this project, I truly appreciate it.

Regards,

Here's your inspiration for rebuilding the main harness, not as bad as it seems, using aircraft quality wire.

FWIW Roger sells the 5/7 way splitter vacuum line, as well as most other parts you could possibly need
