I spend most of my _miles_ cruising along. Your comment does bring up that some people never use the upper RPM range where these cars are meant to be used. If you're not touching 6K RPM occasionally you should try it. You'll like it. Then go for 6500 with the foot fully down. It's great.

To the OP: You'll enjoy the change, if nothing else.

Sorry I have been away from the Rennlist site for a few days over the busy weekend, but want to give everyone a update on the '85 Euro. I went to Lenior N.C. a second time, on Friday afternoon, and I DID end up purchasing the car- I drove it -and most of what you all say I found to be true - My US '85, feels like it has the advantage on the low end torque side. The Euro on the other hand on the 1 1/2 hour drive home was a blast to drive with great power on the high end side, being a rev happy engine. The car showed a clean car fax before purchase and is very good original condition, totally stock, original paint and interior- 90k on the US speedo. I like them both and may try to figure a way to keep both. I will try and post some pictures in the next day or so.

Lou - You did great and I believe the 310hp Euro to be the better car - certainly more desirable than the US 85/86 cars.
I am with 993turbo and he has the "Holy Grail" 86 (not 86.5) 4.7L 310hp with the S4 running gear. This is my next purchase and I have been looking in Europe for a good example for 12 months now.

Thanks Ron - wasn't planning on buying another- this is what happens when you get on Rennlist too often!

Now I have the holy grail of the S2's, the 86, with the S4 underpinnings and drivetrain, but with the 16v 4,7 - 310hp engine. Its a No-sunroof car. Love it.

10:1 vs 10:4 is far superior, plus its down 300cc's!
they all sound the same with the "right exhaust".
85 has the better transmission with the first of the borgwarner synchros which is worth its weight in gold. brakes on both are the the same, if you have the S4 brembos

the 4 valve has much more potential. 330rwhp just by doing a head swap (to S4, or just intall bigger valves) and some headers.

Thanks for all the info -wasn't aware that the S4 heads would work on the 32v '85 -aren't the cams longer? -guess that's why you have to use the entire head when swapping? I may try to keep both cars- keep the '85 Euro more stock, with minor mods like the exhaust system upgrade, the '85 32 valve for more involved modifications it's not as nice cosmetically, but a great driver, i really am liking them both so far -but different reason's!

Fantastic looking 85 Euro, congrats, that's a major find in any condition, let alone as clean and cared for as your discovery!!!

Starting in 85 both the 16V Euro and 32V cars were outfitted with the Borg Warner synchros. Great advantage of the 85 Euro over the 84 Euro. Has the new fusebox, too.

I've taken an 84 Euro, like some of you have, and added a later transmission and the S4 running gear. Like! Still have some work to do, though, getting the now-disabled 84 antilock switched to 86 Euro/86.5 USA antilock.
