It has been said many times, but I will say it again. Never use PAG oil in a system that has been converted to R134a. R12 systems use mineral oil, R134a systems use PAG oil, and R134a converted systems should use ester (POE) oil.
An '87S4 with a 6E171 compressor needs to have 280cc +/- 20cc of oil in the system. The smaller oil specification for '90+ is only for cars with the 10PA20C compressor. The R134a refrigerant capacity for an '87S4 should be 1030g with rear A/C and 860g without rear A/C.
If, when the fuel cooler is removed, the system is evacuated properly, you should lose little to no oil. If your system was working fine, then I would just recharge with the correct amount of R134a and be done with it.
