Default Engine almost out

Well, it has been several months. My Son (13) and I have been gradually pulling the engine out of my 87 S4 auto. It has been a slow process. Teaching him all the way thru. Was at the point to start hoisting it out today, and I decided to back off and start fresh the next chance we get. I was only able to get the tranny to slide back a little bit. The shaft is still in the center of the flywheel by about 1/4". I think we can maneuver enough to get it by. The only thing i cant find is the infamous wire bundle clamp on the bottom cross-member. will i see it as i start to lift?.

Most of my wiring connections are toast. So i will be looking for info on sourcing or better alternatives to the originals.

Found lots of wires that were snacked on by mice. I cant believe it ran as good s it did!!!!

Once the engine is out, i pull the car out of the garafge and bring his 968 in. It was a
$2K junk yard find that had T/B fail. Head work and valves were done. Hopefully correctly. I put new chain and tension pads. Going to do the TB/WP and cam timing and see what happens.

87s4 aut.

did the engine pull awhile back. that bundle is not exactly on the bottom of the crossmember, but as i recall it is on the side of the engine and top of crossmember....if memory serves correctly it is on the drivers side. that bolt is impossible to get to. what i did was pull out that wiring in toto thru the clamp.

another hint, if you read my posts, make sure tabs on flywheel are at 6 oclock not 12 oclock, makes the pull easier.

Yes the front wiring harness can be pulled through the Loop on the cross member after disconnecting it from the starter, use a stiff "pull" wire to pull it back through during install.

Note: I have NEVER moved the trans (auto or Stick) doing an engine removal, no need for this added work. But do jack up the bell housing to maintain a proper angle to remove the engine from the bell housing.

Hope this helps,

Dave
