Looking for an s4

Make sure you check everywhere for the right car. In addition to the usual like ebay, craigs list, auto trader, etc., try using word of mouth with the local pca or Porsche dealers. Posting here is a good start too.

A few weeks ago Pete Martin, owner of Stuttgart Motorwerks in Hendersonville, NC had a couple 5 speed S4s for sale for his customers. Don't know if they are still there or not. His number is 828-694-3510. He is an experienced 928 mechanic and good guy.

There is an 88 S4 on Autotrader that's been listed since at least the end of May. He's dropped the asking price from $14,900 to $9,900.

Include 89-91 GTs in your search. They are rare and more expensive than a comparable S4, but have a nice list of upgrades, especially the 89s. All GTs are 5-speeds too.

This is not going to be an easy decision. A lot of nice cars. My main fear is ending up with another money put like my 84 was before all the work. I want five speed, love the rear evaporator, love the added horses and the body style differences to my 84. I was the third owner of my car. The second owner only had it about a year. I think neither replaced much of anything. It had most of its miles put on in the 80's. it had 124k when I bought it. Probably sat for years.

Whenever I'm advised I have too many cars or am spending too much money on them I simply ask my advisor how many shoes she has. Usually ends the conversation quickly.

If I follow this logic regarding my wife's shoes I would have stables of cars, a different one to drive every day of the year.
I tried this line of reasoning on her and somehow it doesn't hold. At any rate, there are quite a few nice 928s out there and if you're patient you will be rewarded. The PPI is a big deal, if done by the 928 cognizant.

I bought my 84 on a whim. I knew it would need a little work but I got bit by the bug. I wanted to go all out. I have been in the mechanical field all of my adult life. I took a gamble, had a lot of fun, wasted a lot of money, but now I just want turn key without breaking the bank. That's why I posted on this site. More likely that people on here don't ignore problems with their cars.
