Default 928 engine basket case back together

Father and son project. This engine rebuilding job was a crazy experience and taught us to have lots of patients. When we brought the car home it took several trips just for all the engine parts. It took a year on an off and lots of research the biggest hurdle was the cam timing. Now its finally running and we got to test drive it last week for the first time. It runs real smooth but still got some tinning to do it lays down above 4500 RPM when we get time we'll look at the Flappy circuit. Thanks again for all the help and advice on this forum.
Thanks,
Jess and Russell

Default cam timing

do you have pics of the cam timing?

would be cool to post them and how you did the cam timing etc.

nice project. real good looking engine.

on the flappy, just make sure the vacuum leads are in the right place on the solenoid that is in the front of the engine. it has 2 connectors.

Looks beautiful, congratulations!

How big is the wYAIT list- doing motor mounts? If auto, doing a clamp the torque tube/driveshaft?

WOW.......a non running S4 is a quite a project....even if it was FREE to start with..... Doubtful the flappy is your problem...most likely the Hall sensor (cam timing -6') and-or knock sensors -3 each....when my well running S4 developed 1 knock plus hall it fell flat on its face up high....

Nice job!

The 2 venturi tubes are on backwards. You'll find a hole in the bands that fits onto the top of the cam covers. That'll make sense the next time you've got them off.

Looks good ... and clean

Love to see a few more pics of the whole process. What methods and products did you use for parts cleaning? ... the block is gleaming. Powder coated intake and covers?

Nice project! What exactly do you mean it lays down above 4500? Can you explain this in a little kore detail? Does it bog down, starts to missfire, the rpm stops rising, etc?

Thanks for the comments and feed back.
Good catch on the Venturi tubes.

I was asked how I cleaned the block (solvent and scotch-brite pads. Also the intake and valve covers were powder coated.

Iceman, your right its not the flappy I tested the flappy and it seems to work fine when I snap the throttle it completely opens.

ImoOOO, asked me about the RPM problem, test drove and it accelerates to 4000 RPM quickly but stops pulling hard with no miss but won't accelerate above 4500 RPM it kinda feels like it running out of fuel. Ive replaced several sensors when I built the engine (both knocks, crank, idle air and rebuilt MAS. I guess my next step will be rigging up fuel pressure gauge and go for another test drive. I didn't change the hall sensor.

Thanks
