A possible element that accelerated the seal failure. Sand and dirt in the rack end boots.
Of the 3 928's I've owned all needed racks. Year, Mileage at replacement 1989 66k 1990 54k and 1995 32K. The 95 was a coastal car.
The commonality I found was the top of the boot bellows cut by the teeth of the rack. Boot sagged. That's how water, sand and dirt penetrated and was trapped in the boots.
So, On my 95 I lightly bungee corded up the New boots up. The thought is that the boot sliding on the smooth under side of the rack will last longer. If a hole is worn, at least it's on the bottom.
Thoughts ?
I keep an eye on them now. Looks like I'll have to schedule a rebuild.
Thanks for the Info
