air pump - smog pump delete
Hi guys, in the middle of my TB/WP, PSL,FL, oil filler gasket replacements and I want to take out the air/smog pump. Did not see DIY write-up and search was nil. I am replacing the OEM tensioner with Porken AP delete.
Is it worth the trouble to remove AP or just leave it in sans belt. Bracket is already removed, Cats are gone, car registered in Texas as antique, no smog required. Never plan to live in any communist state that requires all cars to have emissions testing . CA. Kiss my Accessory.
Advantages in my mind, weight, more room under the hood, less crap to look at....stick it to the man!!
Thanks

I just did mine last week. I purchased the Porkentensioner without the airpump bracket. I simply took the entire pump out. You pretty much have to remove it to get it out of the way anyway. Its only a bolt or two.

You're going to have to move it anyway to get the TB off. It's part of the process. BTW is that a picture of the interior of your car? What kind of steering wheel is that? I want one

Yes - just don't reinstall it after you put the porken tensioner in.
You can remove all the air pump plumbing too, including the filter, hoses, diverter, and metal line to the cats. Plug the bottom of the air box. I think I used a 5/8 inch cap. You'll save maybe 15 lbs of weight and have easier access to the compressor after you remove the air pump.
Once you are done, the air pump filter housing becomes a nice beer holder for when you are working on your car.
With the porken system you save some weight. You can also delete the TB roller assembly under the crank gear.

LOL, I was just looking at mine yesterday wondering what to do with that. Great idea! I just deleted my smog pump as well...no emissions testing for vehicles registered Historic in Maryland.

Unfortunaltlu I live in Phoenix And we have local smog tests. I'm going to disconnect it and just leave it. Put the belt on when I need to test. Putting in an electric fan kit with so the clutch fan is by by.
