Default Cylinder Head Question

Guys,
Removed intake, fuel rails to do some servicing there. I primarily wanted to inspect/test the ISV. I've been having some idle issues, but runs great while in motion. Just did a 2000 mile jaunt to Wash DC and home.

I had some clean shop rags in the intake channels while doing the bench work. I had inspected each when intake was initially removed to look at the status of the input valves - slight carbon but looked OK.

After sitting for a day while at the bench, when I removed the rag in cylinder 8 it was soaking wet, and much to my surprise, and chagrin, the fossa was filled with coolant !

I removed the bolt for the dampener bracket in order to get clearance.
Does this bolt go into the water jacket or am I looking at a gasket ? I know the similar bolt on the passenger side does go into the jacket.

Thanks in Advance,
Craig

sure you didn't just wick up some coolant from an adjacent channel? and don't you mean you removed the head as opposed to the intake? "I removed the rag in cylinder 8"

Sorry, if I misspoke. The rag was in the intake fossa (?) of cylinder 8 and was filled with coolant. I only removed the intake and rails.
When you say '...coolant from an adjacent channel', what exactly do you mean ?
Thanks

okay, nevermind then. I wasn't sure if you had the head off with a rag in the cylinder, and possibly also shoved in a coolant channel as well. I agree with your screw hole theory but i'll defer to others on that.

Yes the bolt for the dampener bracket goes through the coolant block-off plate (if you turned the heads around that is where the water bridge would go
The heads are the same (left and right) just depends on how you put them together, so it is not uncommon when that bracket bolt is removed to get some coolant seeping out.

davek9,
You're a good man !
I was momentarily panic stricken (no, oh **** stricken) when I saw the coolant.
I have another sort embarrassing question, but I'm going to throw it up as its own thread for reply.
Thanks again.
