Right on Dr Bob, well said. I really appreciate the compliment too.
I came across Adam Birnbaum's "928 Forum" magazine and found to be so insightful and refreshing that I had to email him and ask why the magazine just disappeared. He was certainly on the right track and I think it's a perfect time for such a magazine to surface again.
For now though, we've gotta write more about these old girls and bring them back out into the public eye. PCA has been very open with this concept so far.

On and off member since '78 (birth). Folks have been members since '75. I've been a member on my own since '07 after a lapse from '96 (aged out of parents' membership!).
I have two great chapters near me and I agree, never a bad word said about the 928 here. I've done a zone 2 de and a Niagara region DE and felt more than welcome both times. Locally (Chesapeake and Potomac) we have some awesome events and they're very active about actually getting out and driving. Lots of DEs and autocrosses. And some excellent crab feasts!
Keep it up, though, writing about the 928. Definitely rare to see published pieces that don't come off making it sound like a red headed step child of the Porsche pantheon.

I have been a member since 1995. I have been an Area Director (unique to the Carolinas Region), Vice President, President and Parade Chair in 2008. You tend to get pockets of the elitist BS within any organization and PCA is not immune. That being said I have never seen the model snobbery that some have described, other than good hearted joking.
You need to keep in mind that PCA is a 100% volunteer organization, so if you don't like how things are being ran get involved and change it. Our Area (Charlotte and surrounding counties) was basically dormant when I joined. No meetings, no events, no anything. So a small group took it upon ourselves to change that and we got together for our first meeting (about 5) and built from there.

A member and have done one event which was very good. 993,996,997,991,951, and 986 present. Now....when I do the Cars and Coffee which has PCA members there...I have found them to be just like it was in high school....you got your little groups that stick together and do not speak...as if I am going to taint their conversation.
Now...I am one of the exceptions: My first Porsche was a 928 (which I still have)....but I also own a 911 and just recently picked up a 951. I spot every Porsche on the road...and try to acknowledge them..no matter which one I am in. I do not find the same with most Boxster and 911 owners....and have never experienced a Cayenne owner acknowledge my presence.
This is my opinion: Some of us owns a Porsche because of the cars they are (and we know them all)....and others own a Porsche for bragging rights or status symbols. I think thats what makes the difference. I decided to dump tons of money into my 928 to restore it to its glory day....not for the status symbol....but because of the car and the way it makes me feel when I sit behind the wheel.
Ok ...off my soap box.

One of our locals put together a photo shoot at the LeMay Car Museum (Tacoma, WA) and then wrote an article about his 928 for our local PCA mag (Spiel). They chose the photo for the cover. Check it out...

I've been a PCA member since 2001..but usually we only crash a few of their events (like show and shines and the year end party they used to have). We could get between 10 to 20 928 to take over with just a few calls.
Our region is pretty cool with the 928...past president had one.. Most of them have heard of the 928 and that's about the extent of it..nothing derogatory that I've heard..

Was an active PCA member for 15 years. Started when I got a 944 Turbo S and discovered their autocross. Have owned 2 944 Turbos, a Boxster, and 2 928s during my membership. Out of 150 dues paying members in the region there are only 20 active with only 5 to 15 showing up for any given event. This past year I was deeply offended by several of the board members. Ended with me resigning a position on the board, printing of the newsletter, hosting and updating the web site, and I will not be renewing my membership. It was the people.

Been a member since the early 90's. Have been asked to be Pres in past, but I have too many other things going to devote the time I would like to. That was a few years ago, and I haven't been active in the club lately. They always have stuff going on like fun drives and a few DE events @ Laguna as it is our local track. Maybe when things slow down, and I have more time I can do more stuff with them. Everyone in the local club is very nice, and has not been derogatory towards 928's. I think it is more like... "What kind of Porsche is that?" How old is it? Wow, never knew it existed...

Been a member 7 years attend a number of events. Nice compliments paid to the 928. I enjoy getting the magazine each month. Membership fees very reasonable (cheap). I will continue to be a member as as long as I own a Porsche

Been a member of the Hurricane Region for four years now. A VERY "928-friendly" region! I don't go to many events, but everyone I've met through PCA has been very nice, helpful, and interesting (in a positive way). Wish I could make it to more events, but I live an hour and a half away from the main meeting points.

Like Harvey said, PCA is run by volunteers. True, we have a mix of 10 full and part time employees, but we also have a national staff of 150 volunteers. I guess I was lucky when I joined in 1989 at the age of 23 that my region was so welcoming. I saw how much fun they were having that I wanted to be part of it.
I NEVER had anyone judge me by the car I was driving ( I joined with a 1981 924). I've had a 914 since 1994 and have always been welcomed at any Porsche event. Heck, at one car show, the 356 guys told me to park with them since I was an air cooled 4 cylinder Porsche. I owned a concours winning 1979 928 for five years. Same deal, no problems with other folks. Honestly, I really think its a two way street. If you go into it believing that you are going to be judged, then odds are, anything someone says to you may be misinterpreted. Not saying there aren't jerks out there, lord knows, I've seen them, but they are the vast minority.

+1 Jeff. Although a 911 junkie, I love our 944S, 928, and even our long gone Boxster... Porsches are like kids (or dogs). Although they are all unique and have different personalities, in the end they each have the same DNA and you love them all equally.
I think the club is what you want it to be, much like a business. If your heart is into Porsches or a specific model and you're pretty passionate about it, you have the ability to change things if you don't like where it's going. Sure, there's a lot of political bull****e, but there are always opportunities to make your mark and inspire others.
I think in the end it's in the best interest of the organization to listen to any of us with something to say...and if they don't, you can always branch off and start your own gig.

I have been active in the LSR region here in Houston for about two years. We have get togethers, DE's, concours, you name it. I own a 2006 911, a 1988 S4 and a 2009 Cayenne. I have been welcomed at all events regardless of which P car I arrived in. Sorry to hear that other regions are not like this.

yes, and our club is good - ARPCA; I was in the Absorka Region when I lived in MT, which was also an excellent group. I find the other members enjoy my car as much as I enjoy each of theirs. I love all Porsches. The folks are fantastic.

I would echo what Keith said. We joined the LSR chapter earlier this year and have been to a couple of get togethers, club races and a driver performance school. We have always felt welcomed and have gotten very appreciative comments on our 928.
