Default Defroster vents

Before I go pulling on the vents to try to remove them, is there an easy way to get them off or does the dash have to come out. My leather covered dash is separating slightly at one vent and I wanted to secure the leather, but not so bad as to remove the dash. Thanks.

They will come out easy enough if you use a dull. plastic wedge.
Insert under the front edge and pry up.

Getting them back in will not be easy unless the dash edges where the plastic tabs snap in are in perfect alignment and not bent out of shape.

DO NOT, repeat DO NOT use the windshield as an anchor, or to support any kind of device (even your elbow) or force, to press them back down into the dash.
I learned this back in 1986 when I had my first 928.

I pulled mine out easy enough to try to tuck a section of leather back under. Not only did I fail at stretching and tucking the leather, but I have never been able get the defroster trim back into place properly. I wish I had left well enough alone.

I think I will leave well enough alone myself!

Lest any 90-95 owners try this, it won't go well- the airbag dash defroster vent ducts are screwed to the cowl crossmember:
