So I know it must just be in the pod somewhere. The only connectors that I disconnected where the signal switch when I removed it to move the pod forward enough to replace the ignition switch.
Any ideas where to look before I pull it apart again? I've checked all the fuses already.
Art,
Not clear on what 'Head unit dims as it should.' is.
So no dash illumination.
Center console illumination is... ?
Pod switches illumination is... ?

head unit = stereo. It is supposed to have be less bright when the headlights get turned on. Is working as it should.
No center console lights but ashtray light comes on with headlights
POD switches light when turned on not lit with just headlights on.

It's very easy to accidently pull the wires off the dash dimmer rheostat when moving the pod around, trip odo reset too. (ask me how I know that ).
It's possible, but difficult to reattach them without unbolting the pod and dropping it just a little. I found it worth the effort to unbolt the pod.

The Black/Blue wires carry illumination to the console and pod. A Black wire carries current to the rheostat. Two Black/Blues carry current out. One to console, and the other to pod/dash illumination. Have a look under and re-attach.

Thanks guys. That was the problem. Not a job for a guy with big hands. I did end up having to unbolt the POD again. Then I had to cut the wire wrap back from the wires. Just so i could get enough movement to get them back on their posts. But all is good.
Time for a beer.

Art,
If you want to forgo dimming function, just connect the the Black/Blues to the Black for permanence.
Will have the maximum illumination you can have in that ANY resistance from the rheostat is eliminated.

Thanks Craig. If I happen to get in there again I may do that. Hopefully I'm done with the POD for awhile.
