Default Front side marker turn signals

Is there any specific trick to removing the front side marker turn signals for bulb replacement on an 87s4?

Thx

Yup, remove the W/W liner then access the light assembly from the inside of the fender. It's held in place by two nuts and brackets, but the bulb can be replaced by removing the rubber boot. You don't have to remove the entire light assembly.

I have not removed the fronts, but if they are anything like the rear side markers there are two studs on the back side with nuts that hold retaining brackets. You need to get access to the back side of the fender and remove the nuts. If you are just changing the bulb you likely don't need to remove the housings. Just pull out the bulb holder and change the bulb. Either way you need to get access to the back side of the light housing. It may be easier to remove the bulb holder with the light off the car or at least loose because there is a tab that retains it that you don't want to break. It becomes brittle with age and can snap.

I think there may be some confusion here. The 928 has turn signal lenses on the bumper, which are held in place by two screws. These turn signals are lit when the lights are on, but flash brighter when the turn signal is activated.

The side markers are in the fenders, and are not connected to the turn signals. They are simply lit when the lights are on. To access those, you have to remove the wheel liner first, and then the access panel in the front of the fender.

To avoid having to replace these bulbs again, I recommend upgrading to LEDs. Make sure you use LEDs that light-up in Amber, as white LEDs overpower the amber tint of the side marker lenses and make them appear very white-ish.

Hope this helps.

Apologies for reviving what should be the easiest repair on the car, but can anyone verify that to change the front turn signal bulb (not side marker), all you should have to do is remove the two screws from the lens and then pull the lens out? I tried that, but as you can see from the picture below, it looks like there's a gasket of some sort behind the lens. It looked like it wanted to tear on mine, so before I forced it I figured I'd verify that what I was doing was correct. I certainly didn't see a way to get the bulb out from the back. Thanks!

You are correct, the turn signal bulbs must be replaced from the front. Yes, the gasket may be sticking to the cover, or maybe someone used RTV to make a better seal the last time the bulb was changed (the original bulb was installed 35 years ago, so Idoubt it is still there!). Pull the cover off and do the best job of sealing the cover that you can when you re-mount it after the bulb has been replaced.

I don't know whether new gaskets are available, but if they are, and you find them, post their part number etc. here on this thread for help to future seekers.
