Default Auto shifting issue.

Yesterday I was going to move my 928 and noticed that wouldn't go into second. Something was keeping it from shifting all the way down.I pulled ,wiggled and forced it and as my usual MO kicked in ...I broke it free. Operative word ....broke. I think there was something holding the accordion part of the shifter from moving freely all the way down. When I pulled it too hard the accordion part no longer moves with the shifter. Has anyone had this issue? I've had the center console off and remember a sort of a keeper to hold the shifter and the slide to move together. Any thoughts? Thanks, Doug.

Looks like there are supposed to be tabs to hold the two parts together . I still can't figure why it stuck. It has always worked properly before. Thanks, Doug.
