I used the #3 hose for my transmission vacuum line. I had measured the pressure modulator nipple and the #3 ID fit (a little tight getting on but I'm happy with that). The line is essentially like a hard vacuum line. These will last forever. I plan on using these Pegasus lines for my other vacuum lines as well. The new transmission line fit into the 'T' with the same connector the old rubber line used.

Just buy some 3mm lines from summitracing.com. They are inexpensive and have very thick walls. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tbs-ts-hv0303-bk. For the very large lines use heater hose or fuel hose because it is readily available and resistant to oil and gas fumes.

Here's an old page I did in 1999 about replacing the vacuum lines on my 81.

Of course, this seems so long ago, there may be better options now.

Resist the bling.

You know why certain cars are favourites at car shows...that's the one nobody changed _anything_ on.

Everyone forgot the original art.

Lots of awesome cars at last years Sharktoberfest in LA...but the sexy one was Mark's Barn Find with like no miles on it in his garage when he opened the hood.

IMHO, you'll be reducing the value of your unusually rare car, with bling hose.

What do I do? ****, I paid $4k for an S4 that has 254k miles on it now...I could punch a hole in the block tomorrow and still feel I won.

Jeff, I dont want bling or fancy colors. Black please. But I want a smooth running engine, and in my experience, with these older bosch FI systems, Vacuum is very important and replacing all the 32 year old lines is key. Ive looked over my engine and several have been already changed over the years of PO's. but many are still old and brittle fabric covered kind and cracking.

I personally do not like silicone lines so I found the correct Cohline fuel hose for the various sizes needed on our cars. Some are the black braided lines and others are smooth. Along with the hoses still available from Porsche we have them for all the applications on the early cars. I prefer my own early cars to look stock.

Then get the good old rubber vac line.

It worked for 35yrs.

That shiny silicone stuff will stand out like a turd in a punchbowl.

Another alternative is Viton tubing. It looks like rubber hose (black and dull), is almost as heat resistant as silicone, is stronger, more flexible and resists oil better. On the downside, it is rather pricey, and I have not found it in metric sizes (that means that some connections will be more secure with a clamp of some sort).

I'm with "Gustatus Similis Pullus" on this one. Nobody likes turds in a punchbowl. Just started bringing in braided hoses from Roger..they are the "right " thing to do IMHO.

Cheers,
