In the past I've connected a valve to the radiator and pressurized it to 14psi so can investigate while under pressure but not hot. This helped me diagnose my. Water pipe failure. Don't forget the two bolts that go into the water jacket back there, one is in the water pipe flange, the other in the blank off.

Looks like we'll have our work cut out for Saturday.

We can also check compression still. She's never had one. I want to make sure she's running well before I start modding after taking care of all the maintenance issues.

Sure thing! I think we planned 11 or 11:30am.

BBQ most likely, hamburgers or ribs, whatever my dad decides to cook. Hopefully the weather holds up.

Apart from the short hose and heater control valve and the hose that connects to, what other places for leaks can I source the coolant too?
A leak near the MAF could be the mount for the heater valve fitting to the head. On the other head there is a block off plate. These areas can leak either at the gasket under them or through the bolts. Sometimes the wrong (to long) bolts are installed or a washer/spacer is left out or the bolt holes strip so the plate is not fully cinched down watertight.

Oh, I now see The Forgotten On brought this up already. Anyway, I have seen leaks in this area on a few 928s.

Thanks Bill. Some photos. Perhaps it's leaking under high pressure? If this were the case, just a new gasket I suppose.

One thing I did spot was that the long hose connecting to the heater valve, while still connected, wasn't "seated" fully to the valve and had a quarter inch or so gap. I'm thinking it loosened and popped back and when I turned on the fan/heater that's how it started to smoke because coolant was flowing through it.

But that doesn't explain how I started smelling burning coolant before doing that unless it was leaking already and just full blown after.

Pin pointed as the feeder hose. Tightened it. Start up. No leaks. High-powered run. Leaked. Replacement part on the way from Roger.

Despite the leak still there, not bad of a day though. Damn Fraggle's car is fast!!! Got to ride that crazy S4. Hope to get mine and Brett's like that one day.
