This magic elixir will increase your virility tenfold. One simple application will enhance your manhood and the opposite sex will flock to your door until you are exhausted. An essential must for those skilled in deflowering virgins and conquering Everest. Not for the faint of heart or those of us happily married. One dab behind the left ear will bring previously unknown pleasure but beware of stray cats.

For the real answer read what THE 928 “maestro” Greg Brown said
The problem is dirt/varnish on the check ball for the hydraulic lifter....although it does concern me that your lifters made more noise after a few minutes. That usually means that oil isn't getting there, properly. Cam carrier gaskets installed correctly? Head gaskets installed on the wrong side?

Having "fought" lifter noise....both in 928s and 944 engines....and having tried almost everything....Swebco 502 is the stuff. You can have an engine that is sitting there, clattering away, pour Swebco in and within minutes, the lifters will be quiet. Virtually the only oil additive I use....and only when there is lifter problems.

If you pour in a bottle of Swebco and the lifter noise isn't gone/greatly inproved in a matter of minutes....you need to figure out what the oil supply problem is.

Why does he have to be a member of the 928 OC to get an answer he asks here?

+1 for Swepco 502.

I was having issues with valve noise at idle. Added this product at my last oil chance and have not had the issue since.

it's good for any car, not just the 928.

BUT if you have a Ford Expedition and you hear a 'lifter ticking', don't add Swepco - Check for Spark Plugs backing out.

Lesson Learned.
