Default Brought home for the first time.

I bought this 37k mile, 1986 928S manual the week before last. Picked it up today from the shop that fixed the brake lines, rebuilt rear calipers, new master cylinder and booster and a few other small parts. Timing belt/water pump/tune-up part package bought and en route.

But I took it home for the first time to wash it, then decided to get some pictures before dark - forgot to bring my SLR so these are from my cell phone:

Thanks! Since the first owner sold it in 1999, it has only been driven 300 miles! And the condition overall is great, mechanically strong - the brake system was shot though.

Some small things to resolve, like a persistent e-brake warning beep and no dash or cabin lights (assuming it's fuses). Might be running a little rich, or that might be old cats. Needs a wheel balance, although tires are new.

Hi ryalex: This looks like an exceptional beauty!

A few tips from us 928 old timers...

- The parking brake does not beep, so if you have a beep, it must be something else that causes it.
- The cabin lights - at least in my 91 model - use the same fuse as the instruments. Do all of your instruments work? If any don't work, check the fuse. Another thing that goes wrong with the 928 cabin lights is that they get hot and the plastic pieces begin to buckle. The one above the rear view mirror can then easily make contact with metal from the windshield frame and short out. That's why I replaced all my interior bulbs with LEDs (and so have many of my customers)
- When you say you need a wheel balance - is the steering wheel shaking, or the whole car? At what speed range? One quirk about the 928 is that the rear suspension seems to pick-up a resonance and let the whole car vibrate at certain speeds. We have never quite figured out why some cars do this and others don't. However, if it's your steering wheel that shakes, you may be able to fix it by getting the front wheels rebalanced (ask for road force balancing on all wheels on these cars).

Lastly, it would be great to see some interior pictures of your car!

Congratulations on the car. It's a real beauty.
Consider dried dirt in one spot on the inside of wheels and how that causes imbalance.
Also despite the age of the tires, they may have flat spots from sitting for sale a while.
Just some inexpensive suggestions, as I am sure all the brake work was quite expensive.
Good luck
Dave

I am somewhat shocked, first to see a long time fchat name on the rlist this morning (since you never showed any inkling unlike annuaki that you would make this purchase), but it was confirmed when I opened fchat a few moments ago and 2nd that you would make such a wise choice of possible 928's. You musta been doing a LOT of lurking/reading here.

Good choice and you have an interesting journey ahead of you. Hopefully this is a fun car and not transportation as you will probably need to do some time consuming though interesting refurb on it, for example the pod sounds like it could use a going over -- there is a poster here named Dwayne who has created some amazing tutorials to help out in these tasks. Also suggest the grounds points and the Central Electric Panel need a once over.

welcome aboard. That second pic you posted is awesome - it looks like the 928 Owner's Club silhouette shark!

Even without the SLR those are some great looking shots. Looks like you really have the eye for it, the first has to be my favorite though. Welcome and congrats. Would love to see a few more pictures when you get a chance, enjoy
