Default Found a 928S4 literally in a barn!

Today I purchased a 928S4 from a family whos father passed and they were selling off 11 or so vehicles. All of these were lightly driven and had been collected over the years.
This car is in very good shape. No accidents, no dents. Everything seems to work accept the window motors.
The car started right up and idled smoothly. It needs a tune up and oil change but all in all I think it will be a great project car. I drove it down the road and it shifted smoothly and ran very quiet. its an Automatic..not a 5speed.
It had 1/4 inch of dust on it. Stored in a steel building with a Rolls and several other cars. I'm stoked.
Now to figure out what to do for preventative maintenance. Does anyone know where I can get a shop manual?

Just to beat everybody to it:

Welcome

Read through this thread:

Do the timing belt.

Check for TBF (search "thrust bearing failure.")

Roger sells the manuals and other materials on CD. Jim Morehouse did a great job putting it all together. Much more than just the Manuals. Best $$$ you'll spend, after a Rennlist membership.

Joe, I think you mean 9, not 90... My shop manuals are in 9 three ring binders. Can't imagine shipping will be more than $50.

I probably would NOT have started the car w/o first checking quite a few things considering the amount of time it had been sitting to collect 1/4" of dust, but to each his own and glad it started and ran. Good luck on your new adventure.

Let us know how we can help. I am curious about the windows though as I have never personally had a window motor go out...other have I know...but I have not. Would not surprise me if it is a fuse or more likely a relay.

Welcome.
The workshop manuals are available as part of the Morehouse CD's.

Preventative maintenance (where do I start)
1 - Timing belt unless you know the history of the existing one and it is only a few years old.
2 - Electrical grounds
3 - Fuel
4 - ALL fluids (oil / transmission / coolant / brake / PSD if it has one)....
5 - Tyres if old.
6 - Thrust bearing / flex plate etc.
...
...

Post the year of the car so others can point to specific things for theat model year.

Thanks for all the feedback!
The car is a 1987 S4. it has just over 54K. The car had been driven a few months back..The dust was kicked up by alot of work being done in this big barn. Very dry in there which is a good thing I suppose.
MIght be a good idea to have CDs rather than a hard copy but I'll kick that around.

Another stack of links for you. Kinda like homework, I guess, but fun.

A lot of the ones below are found in the Buckeye Landsharks resources at the top of the pile.

The CD's, if you get the right set from the right place, have the full manuals, but also have a large amount of extremely valuable information not shown in the workshop manuals, plus, serve in many cases as practically written missing augmentation to the manuals.
The right CD's + hardcopy manuals are the way to go.

Again I agree, you can not have too much information. And even with all that, the knowledge that is here on this board will save you over and over again. As Fogey said...............WELCOME!
