The Techedge 2J2's are good, I use the Innovate LC-1 because it is more readily available here. The one advantage of the TE controllers is the differential WBO2 output, which avoids any ground issues (if properly configured and wired). But a separate, isolated ground point for the Innovate sensor avoids ground issues also. It would be great if Techedge had a US distributor.

Some folks say that the newer LSU 4.9 sensors are better than the usual 4.2 (an option for TE, not for the Innovate). The advantage is that they are apparently self-calibrating, avoiding the need for free-air cal when swapping sensors. That is important for production cars (which is what these are mostly sold for, before/after AFR measurements on each cat for newer cars). But for tuning, a few minutes to do a free-air cal once in a while is no big deal.

I had an interesting conversation with Dave C (worf928) about where to mount the LC-1 module. It is billed as weatherproof and I mount it either tucked behind the exhaust heatshield or tied to the aircon lines, under the car. Dave raised his eyebrows and said "Oh, really? You really think it is waterproof?". Interesting question, mine has been there for about four years now, plenty wet, and working fine but maybe that is an anomaly. Dave mounts the LC-1 module inside, and removes the pins from the big fat connector to get the cable through the hole in the tunnel. The only real data point is that Rob Edwards (IIRC) melted his LC-1 from exhaust heat, tucked behind the heat-shield. But things are different in SoCal...

I think the best deal going right now is the Innovate MTX-L, gauge with built-in controller and sensor for the same price as the LC-1.

Cheers, Jim
