Just acquired my first '85 model and it's a 3 speed auto. I thought '85's and '86 cars were 4 spd autos....???? Does my 3 spd auto have the groovy torquey gearing I read about?????? I betcha Landseer knows the answer to this one....

319 ... additional engine cooling for hot climate countries = different diameter fan pulley to give higher fan speed.

ahhhh....that's the 319 option. Kool! (pun intended)....lol

BTW Dave....the original color on my latest rescue is very close to your 82 euro....mine is garnet red. Nice classy color.

I think 2,3,D. First isn't marked.

Some folks have reported that they startout in 2nd gear when they act up and need some minor adjustment or have vac leak.

Midyear 87 there was a change in the transmissions to force a 2nd gear start under most normal circumstances, mainly for economy and smoothness. Not for the 83,4,5,6, 6.5 cars though.

If you place yours on the 2 position, from stop, it should begin in 1st gear and hold first gear without shifting up. If you then move the lever to 3 will then cause it to quickly shift to 2 and to 3. Careful doing this, do it just to test it.
