928 racer vs Lotus Elise racer..VIDEO

My friend Rob in his Lotus Elise racer put up his video from our race two weeks ago..... It was SO much fun....evenly matched cars with nearly identical lap times (he did out qual me by about 1 second)....

Here is Rob's video

My video

I'm now tied for 2nd for the year in GT3 and Rick Petty is winning GT2!!!

That was some great racing and a few very close calls. Loved every min of it!

Way to go Brian

Didn't realize the open wheels and the little sports racers would run with the door-slammers like that. Very cool!

After a spin like Rob did, I typically flat-spot my shorts a little....

Rob is a great driver....I think he was the Lotus Cup champion for the west coast....its a classic battle of better handling vs more power....he had the handling I had the power....at Thunderhill where 5 corners are handling vs 10 corners for power I have an advantage....Sears would be a different story...

Another advantage I had was slicks vs Dot R tires....he was on his spec tire which is Yokohama Dot R vs my scrub Pirelli slicks....that gives me an edge in that I can't "cook" my tires since its not possible at my HP level...you can cook dot R tires quite easily...his tires were dying in the end, mine were 100%.... Or maybe 90% since they started as scrubs... but still better than end of race Dot R's....

I am bummed that an engine misfire caused me to miss the 2nd race with Rob....I look forward to racing with him in the future since it is SO much fun....great guy and competitor...

Brian,
Not seeing any aero on your car, no rear wing, no front splitter. Is that regulations, or have you just found "without" works better for you?

I need to stop looking at the race threads lest I get sucked up and buy another 928 just for racing.

Yup precisely ZERO aero on my racer...... its all about $$$ as in I don't have any:(

I am working on improving things in the not too distant future.... The plan is a simple front air dam, maybe vent the hood and a proper rear wing mounted really high to get in the clean air......

I am happy with the balance of my car as is.....so the goal of aero is to increase grip, especially in high speed corners without changing the handling balance too much....

You can't restart that lotus by just having it in gear and letting out the clutch?

My guess is that you have to turn the ignition off/on to reset the inertia switch. Even so, your suggestion would work after resetting.

Bill speaks the truth.......a well running 928 of ANY year can make a serious racer for very little $$$.....:rockon:

Honestly I considered buying Andre's car to build a racer until Casper came along...

The single biggest thing is don't get hung up on HP...sure the later 32V cars and Euro's have more power but it doesn't matter when you are early to the game of driving on track...ANY well running 928 makes plenty of power to get out there....Perfect example.....Ricks pristine yellow racer has a stock USA 4.5L 1979 CIS engine.... 220whp 230torque....doesn't sound like much until you consider its low 2600lb weight...:jumper: honestly the single most reliable 928 racer I know of....

When you are new to racing-track driving HP is the ENEMY....it teaches bad habits....driving lower powered cars will make you a better driver faster...

Its all about getting out there.....in a full street car or not....just get out there and have fun
