Default Why buy Excellence?

Every month around his time I hasten to our local newstand to pick up a copy of "Excellence". I feel guilty about standing at the rack and reading the magazine (some people I know will pick up a newspaper, read all of the news and then put it back) so I buy it, take it home, and read it there. As magazines go, it's not cheap, but I always hope to see something about our favorite car. This months issue had new 911s, old 911s and 356s. No articles about front engine cars and rarely something on the 928. My critics say that I expect too much for a car that went out of production almost twenty years ago. Still when did the 356 go down? So, what say you all?

They don't talk much about 928's in Excellence, Road &Track, Sports Car Market, or Velocity either, but I subscribe to all of them because they all discuss other interesting cars (and IMO are worth preserving in print form, so I support them). Hemmings Sports Car and Exotic seems to be a fan of the 928, and I subscribe to it as well, but 11 out of 12 of their issues aren't going to have any 928 content either.

Dropped my subscription several years ago. Haven't seen an issue since then. Every article seemed to follow the same pattern. Heck, some were even repeated year after year (i.e. market reports). Overall: meh...

I enjoy reading Excellence I wouldn't buy it at the stand get a subscription (better value). I didn't expect them to cover the 928 much and I am pleasantly surprised when they do! I admit it's been a while. The only other subscription I have is to Hemmings Sports Cars and Exotics I have to agree with Rob they do show the 928 much love!

Excellence subscription is cheap, I like the articles on various people's projects, not always my cup of tea but I like to see what other people can do with either a limited budget or anything goes. Sometimes gives me ideas or motivation on my projects.

I never read the market reports.

If you are only looking for 928 content I would not bother for sure.

Years ago I used to get 911 and Porsche World before they went all glossy and upmarket, they often had 928 content too.

In addition to the 928 Forum magazines I scanned and posted a while back,

https://rennlist.com/forums/10093811-post21.html

I also scanned some old 928-specific articles. Hopefully this won't cut into anyone's back-issue sales figures, or violate any copyrights- if so, yell and I'll pull the link(s) down.

Here's some 928 content in Excellence:

I subscribe because it is well written, well edited, and is helping me learn more about different Porsche models and Porsche history. My 928 is my first Porsche, so every issue is very interesting to me. I'll continue to subscribe.

This is a link to the Excellence article about my 86.5. I subscribe to Excellence and to Hemmings Sport and Exotic Car. They do love the 928.

Excellence staff are very fair to give 928s their due in this magazine. My 1986.5 track car was given a large spread in the February 2005 edition.

However the main stream Porsche crowd are 911 owners and lovers. So most of the time Excellence must cater to their core readership's wants and desires. Just makes economic sense.
