When looking at the bolts on the backing plate, the ones closest to the firewall look particularly difficult to get a wrench on. After today's experience of a rusted solid fuel fitting, I'm wondering about the likelihood of these bolts breaking, and, if that were to happen, what would I do? I can't see how I could get a drill on them. Would I have to remove the engine at that point?

Thoughts on how to remove the backing plate bolts without breaking them? Also, is there any harm in just leaving those backing plates weeping, and when the engine comes out some day (possibly long) in the future do them then?

Soak the bolts with the 50:50 mixture of acetone and ATF that is often recommended.....

Thanks, John. I mixed some up and let it soak all day, also gave them each a bit of a wrap with a punch this morning. Just gave each bolt a slight loosening turn and it looks like they're going to come out (I hope) . Now I just need the parts from Rog.

For the Honda/Yamabond, do you put it on both sides of the gasket? And how liberally?

Put the box end of a wrench on them and tap gently with a hammer.
The hammering motion helps to free them without breaking. I've yet to break any backing plate bolts.

Just wanted to report back. I followed Stan's instructions and with everyone's helpful advice and Roger's parts everything went smoothly and is working great! Thank you!
