Default Ignition switch refuses to go back in barrel :(

Guys, I pulled the pod on my rescue car to remove the ignition cylinder. The cylinder was turning without catching. No start situation happening. So anyway the PO had a wire nail brad in that pin hole on top of the cylinder barrel and I figured that had to be the problem. So now I'm trying to reinstall the cylinder but it won't go all the way into the barrel. I've wiggled the steering wheel, pushed pulled and struggled but can't get the cylinder back in. WHAT did I do????

There's a tab off the back side that fits in just the right way. You might have to rotate the cylinder more than you think to get it to slide in place.
