LS1 - what a waste of a nice car.

I removed the wing on my GTS and at 160 notice no difference with or without.

yes, a navigator is needed for accuracy. i use 2 countdown timers (1 set for one way and the other set for overall time) and a garmin nuvi GPS. I also use a full set of course notes that lists every corner (with difficulty) and s-turn sequences as well as exact time per mile down to the exact thousandths of a second. try doing that at 110-140MPH in corners. Our .066 second error was only good enough for 7th overall, so you can see that these folks are good.

Fort Stockton ran another ORR in October 2005-2007 called the Roadrunner Open Road Race up and down SH385 from FS to Marathon TX and back. In 2007 we took first in the 110 class and missed target by .009 of a second.

we have a vid of us doing the first leg of BB this year. search youtube with " dave byrd BBORR" and you will get a feel for what we do. i will embed the video later... but if you check it out, be sure and fastforward to the 7 or 8 minute mark for the start.

so bring your 928's out there next April and have fun.... do it once and you will become addicted. Hope to see you out there.

I was thinking about coming out next year. I was going to see how the car ran at the Silver State Classic in Sept, before making final plans. I've talked to Bill about this, and if we can get the Texas 928 folks to coordinate there Spring gathering to fall around the same period (adjacent weekend) this could be an interesting road trip.

It'd be nice to get some good course notes before we make our run, but we'd probably just go to make a qualifying run at 150, and do the serious runs when I could run SuperSport or Unlimited (if all goes well).

Be sure and register the earlier the better. past races have hit the 160 car cap in just a couple days.

just read the rules very closely. join the BBORR forum so you can ask any questions you have regarding the rules and classification restrictions. Remember that you will be considered a "rookie" until you run this event one time.

as for the course, each leg is 59 miles both ways. the majority of the corners and elevation changes are concentrated between miles 31-59. The object is to put some speed in the bank for the first 30 miles and then take it nice and easy through the corners and let the time come down to you. we had an average speed of 119MPH before we got to the tougher sections. we finished the first leg about 1.5 seconds fast.

the return leg, we were about 50 seconds slow when we got out of the twisties... we then carried sustained speeds between 120-135 (in a 45 year old car) and didn't zero out until mile 117 and then we hung at our 115 average the final 31 seconds. and poof... first place!

can't tell you how fun it is to pass a sherriff's car on the side of the road at 130 and they just wave as you fly by! (they have several radar points to catch people exceeding their tech speeds.)

i will be checking this forum in the coming months and try to answer as many questions that i can for you folks. us Ford guys are nicer than the Corvette snobs.

did you get registered? 11 hours after registration opened, they had over 120 cars entered. the cap is 160. we are running the 115 class again.

Thanks for the heads up. I had been checking the site, and registration wasn't open last time I checked. Printing out my forms now and checking with my navigator to make sure his schedule will work. I'll also have to check if they accept my previous ORR experience (23 events, 17 over 150 mph) to allow me to run 150.

You should probably go ahead and register asap. it may already be full. you can always cancel if you can't make it. just try to give them 30 days notice if you do cancel.

i doubt they will allow you to run 150 in your first BBORR event. This road is quite a bit more technical than the silverstate. you probably have done the bonneville and gamblers run also with 23 events under your belt.

sign up, come on out and find us. you will enjoy BBORR. If you do make it, let me know and i will PM my cell number to you.
