'81 catalytic removal
Before you roll your eyes, yes I did perform forum and google searches, but couldn't answer this one thing:
If I remove my Cat on my '81 what do I do with the O2 sensor?
Curently my smog pump is disconnected and seized solid. |the PO also cut the lines running from it. The old girl feels a little sluggish, so I thought I'd try this in case the cat is all plugged up.
I have over 150,000 Km, and it looks like an original. I'm at least the 4th owner, so I don't hae much history to go on.
The mid and rear muffler are apparently some cheap replaements, so I was going to replace it all.
Thinking of a Borla Cat-back but first I need to deal with the Cat.
Also, is there a good supplier for a y-pipe?

I'm assuming this is an '81 USA with the KE injection?
If so the cat should be after the 02 sensor and have little to no impact. Just weld a new bung in for the sensor.
I don't think the '81 had a post cat 02 (emissions only) but if it does you can fool it with a anti-foul.
I removed my cat off of an '81 euro CIS car, but I do live in a non emission controlled state.
If you do many company's make high performance cats which flow really well and still pass emissions.
Hope this helps

Emissions aren't an issue for me. So, to confirm I have it straight:
I install a y-pipe to replace the cat and just mount a bung for the o2 sensor after the u joint.
Presto- change-o I'm off and running...
