928 Specialist in Richmond, VA
After 30 years of lusting after the 928 I finally took the plunge and purchased a 1988 S4 5sp. The car is very well maintained with close to perfect original paint and interior and I want to keep it that way.
Can anyone recommend an independent shop in the Richmond ?

There is a 928 owner in Richmond who is active on this list as Jadz928. First name is Jim, and I'm sure he will pop in here with some suggestions. Alternatively, you can do a search for Jadz928, and send him a private message (click on his avatar to get that option).

PS: Put 9/28 on your calendar for an event in the DC area called "Frenzy". It is a gathering of 928 owners from up and down the east coast, and is a great way to get acquainted with the great people in the 928 community, and see their cars and what they have done to them. Usually 60-100 people and nearly that many 928's attending. Announcement will come from the sponsors sometime this summer.

If you don't mind driving over to Gordonsville, there is Paul Overstreet (Overstreet European Motors). If you are on the west side of Richmond, its about a 40 minute drive. He's a long time Porsche, Audi, MB, BMW tech. Works on all our cars. Honest guy who does great work. Has a few customer 928s he works on and will be getting a visit from the 89 sitting in my driveway.

You'll like him. Good guy, knows his stuff. I started taking our cars to him back in 2005 when my family and I moved to the Charlottesville area.

Congrats, and welcome aboard. Seems as though there's quite a few 928's in the Richmond area. I'm 45 minutes away, and happy to come for a ride, though I have a few months of work on the 928 ahead of me.

I just moved to Richmond a little while ago and am looking for a mechanic for my '89 GT.
My friends that have 911s are happy taking their cars to Lufteknic (http://www.lufteknic.com/about.html), but they don't list anything about 928s on their website.
I've also heard good things about Sportcar Workshops (http://www.sportscarworkshops.com/Home.html), but I don't know how much experience they have with 928s.
Any opinions on these two shops? Is there another shop I should be considering?

VERY great bunch of mechanics over there. They service and restore all Porsches, not just 911s. They've hosted Frenzy a number of occasions in the past and are familiar with 928s without making you feel bad about owning one (I've experienced that with a local shop where I live). I had my x-pipe installed by them. They knew exactly what to do without me telling them and even sorted out some unseen problems with the install on the fly. Considering all the fabrication that had to be done with the install (since my pipe and cats were used and tailored to another car), the price was pretty reasonable. You even get 10% off labor from the first service.
Check them out. Despite the distance, I plan on using them on any service that I can't perform on my 928. They provide courtesy Porsche shuttle service to the Metro station.
