Default Early 86 valvespring replacement

I have the motor apart and got the heads back from the machine shop, but the thing sat for a bit and I let them get rusty. I am going to replace them for certain and I was wanting to get a broad opinion from those who have been there as to what my options are.

If any of the following is incorrect please correct me! Be as specific as you can, please.

At the moment I am looking at the Lindsay Racing set for just under $600, however it is for an S4 which has a 4mm lower installed height. I could get 4mm worth of shims for 32 valves ($$$) or make a thicker spacer (I have machine shop access). I understand that there needs to be a specific shim that is crosshatched on the bottom and probably a typical shim right below the valve spring with the spacer taking up the difference.

Problem I see with this is finding the correct material and properties (hardness and surface finish) to prevent excessive wear on the shims/spacer since they do spin as the spring compresses and extends.

I see an option for 944 valve springs, however, I know little else about it and the cost is over $1000 for 32 and I am not of the opinion that its worth looking into yet.

If anyone else has some advice Ide be keen to hear it! Thanks!

Why not the factory or OEM part, see what one of the normal 928 vendors suggests.

If you were planning on reusing the ones before thy got rusty, then a good set of used ones will be just fine.

I knew the originals weren't dropped or banged around. Valve springs are very fatigue sensitive so things like rust and even knocking into each other in a box are things you want to avoid. I assumed the 928 springs were at least as much as the 944's... I haven't checked though.

About the same, maybe more options on the 944 side aftermarket. I bought two sets of used 944 turbo springs to use with big cam in an early 928, and slowly its dawning on me it was money down the toilet vs buying new springs. Seems like no practical way to test a spring vs sudden failure from some unseen damage.
